Stabler-Leadbeater House (Historical Marker)

Here follows the inscription written on this roadside historical marker:

Stabler-Leadbeater House
(1847 - 1933)

Built circa 1818 by Josiah Hewes Davis (1783-1862), rope maker and ship chandler who operated a rope walk at Jones Point. Purchased in 1847 by William Stabler (1795-1852) as a home for John Leadbeater (1808-1860), his brother-in-law and business partner at Stabler-Leadbeater Apothecary shop. Upon Stabler's death, Leadbeater bought the hose and the business from his widow. Home of three generations of the Leadbeater family, including Edward S. (1836-1899), and Edward S., Jr. (1869-1933), both named for Edward Stabler (1769-1831) who founded the Apothecary in 1792.
