Mount Vernon Watering Trough

Here follows an excerpt from the book, “Snake Hill to Spring Bank” which was an oral history project conducted by students at Groveton High School in the mid-1970s. The interviews were transcribed under the direction of their teachers and local historian Edith Moore Sprouse.

From the interview with Kent Crowther:
"On that property was a spring, just off of Fort Hunt Road, back behind the library. That spring had a stone trough. We were told by the old-timers here that that was the way you had to go to get to Mount Vernon. The people passing would stop to water their horses at the trough. That was still there when they were developing Bucknell.
