Up until the 1950's, it was possible to go on a continuous trip along South Quaker Lane from Franconia Road (State Route 644) via today's Norton Road across Cameron Run and the railroad to reach Duke Street (Route 236). The Cameron Run bridge disappeared in the 1950's and a small neighborhood called Oak Park became cutoff by the new Capital Beltway.
The federal government gave final approval for the construction of the Capital Beltway (also known as the Circumferential Highway in the planning stages) on September 28, 1955. The first section was opened on December 21, 1961; the highway was completed on August 17, 1964.
An overpass across the highway was built directly north of today's Linnean Street at Burgundy Park, with a frontage road to the east back to South Quaker Lane. Unfortunately, the Oak Park neighborhood and the Linnean Street overpass were removed in the mid-1970s to construct the new WMATA Metro Rail Yard. Bluestone Road may have been the west edge of the now-extinct neighborhood.
