Judy Lowe Neighborhood Park Labyrinth
Alexandria, Virginia
The only labyrinth within the city of Alexandria.

Judith Utterbuck Lowe was born in 1936. She grew up in Southwest Washington, D.C., and in 1958, the city used its power of eminent domain to demolish her home.

Her family relocated to Del Ray, where she would live out her 51 remaining years on West Mt. Vernon Avenue.

Ms. Lowe, known as “The First Lady Of Del Ray,” her deep involvement in local civic activities and charities.

Utterbuck served as Chair of the Del Ray Citizens Association (DCRA). In 2003, she was given the lifetime achievement award by the Alexandria Commission on Women.

The park began as a grassroots effort by local citizens to create a pocket park. It wasn’t until 2015 that the park was finally completed. Earlier that year, the City Council approved the DCRA’s recommendation to name the park in Utterbuck’s honor and memory.

The park is a place of peaceful contemplation and home to the only labyrinth within the city of Alexandria.

In addition to the labyrinth at the front of the park, there is a playground tucked away in the back of the park that features an outdoor chessboard.
