Here follows an excerpt from the Fall 2012 edition of the "Franconia Legacies" newsletter published by the Franconia Museum:

Hayes Store operated on Beulah Road 60-plus years ago, next to what is now Nalls Produce. Willy and Ethel Hayes ran the store, and the family lived in the back until it was sold in the late 1950s. You might remember the site as later being Kriegel Furniture. Their son, Bill Hayes, was a member of the Franconia Volunteer Fire Department.

Faye Knupp married Ward Cash, who grew up in the stone rambler on Beulah Road across from what used to be Hayes' Store. Faye and Ward married in late 1953 or early 1954. They lived on Beulah Road for many years, and moved to Chester Gap a few miles out of Front Royal. They live in a beautiful house on the side of a mountain with a marvelous view.

The artifacts from the Pentagon crash that morning have been provided by Bill Hayes, the son of the owners of Hayes Store that operated on Beulah Road 60-plus years ago, next to what is now Nalls Produce. They include pieces of both the Pentagon and the plane that crashed into the building, killing all aboard and many who were at the Pentagon that day. The pieces were part of the debris found as the building was being restored. The Museum Board of Directors was pleased to accept the donation and display these pieces of history that dominated our lives 20 years ago, and should never be forgotten.
