HALL FAMILY CEMETERY
Behind a row of townhouses at the end of Eggar Woods Lane
Springfield, Virginia USA
Original Information from Volume 2 of the Gravestone Books
On 27 April 1938, Luther R. Hall sold land to Francis H. Fannon “...expressly reserving, however, the graveyard on the said land with full right of ingress and egress thereto for upkeep and continued use as a burying ground....” (Deed Book Y12, page 554). The cemetery was part of lot no. 1 at the 1880 division of the estate of Thomas S. Hall.
Today the small cemetery lies behind a row of townhouses at the end of Eggar Woods Lane in the Bethelen Woods area of Springfield. Facing the townhouses at the end of the street, proceed around to the right of 7320 Eggar Woods Lane, down a paved path toward the woods. At the edge of the woods, turn left toward the townhouse play area. The cemetery is about 15 feet behind the play area, surrounded by a 30-by-30-foot chain link fence with gate.
There are four fieldstone markers -- three of native quartz -- within the enclosure. The cemetery receives no maintenance. In September 1994, a heavy layer of leaves from the previous autumn made visualization of burial depressions difficult. Previously, at least six depressions have been reported. Several saplings are growing in the midst of the cemetery and there was evidence of play activity around one of the fieldstones.
