George Washington's Forest (Historical Marker)

Here follows the inscription written on this trailside historical marker:

George Washington's Forest
In the 18th century, George Washington's Mount Vernon property included Dogue Run Farm, Muddy Hole Farm, River Farm, Union Farm, and Mansion House Farm, where you are now. As the map illustrates, more than half of this 8,000-acre property was native woodland. The Forest Trail and surrounding area represent a small example of that great expanse.
