Fort Ellsworth

Here stood Fort Ellsworth, named for Colonel Elmer E. Ellsworth who was killed during the Union Army's occupation of Alexandria on May 24, 1861. Built in 1861, the fort had a perimeter of 618 yards and emplacement for 29 guns.
