Here follows a history of the school as published on the Fairfax County Public Schools website:

The Colchester School, named for the historic town of Colchester on the Occoquan River, opened in 1922. It was located on what at the time was called Ox Road but is referred to presently as Furnace Road. Today, the off-ramp from northbound Interstate 95 onto Route 1 bisects the former schoolhouse property.
