Early History:
Calvary Baptist Church; a conservative, independent Baptist church; has been a solid witness in Alexandria, Virginia, for more than 60 years. Calvary Baptist's first service was at Claremont Elementary School on February 7, 1954. Construction of the first wing of the church was completed October 2, 1960, and construction of the main auditorium was completed October 24, 1965.

During its 60 years of ministry and outreach to the community, Calvary Baptist has only had three pastors: Pastor McClean (1954-1980); Pastor Michael Walters (1980-2016); and Pastor Rodney Moye (2016 - present).

Recent Changes:
In July 2016, Calvary Baptist Church merged with Northwest Baptist Church , a church that was planted by Pastor Moye in September 2003. Together, the newly-merged church has the goal of impacting its community and the world through (1) energetic evangelism, (2) proactive discipleship, (3) the pursuit of spiritual revival, and (4) the support of world-wide missions.

Pastor Rodney Moye was raised in a Christian home and was saved September 1975 during a revival at Bible Baptist Church in Lashmeet, West Virginia. Following salvation, he was scripturally baptized by immersion on September 14, 1975.

In May 1990, Pastor Moye graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Concord University in Athens, West Virginia.

Following graduation, Pastor Moye moved to Washington, DC, where he pursued a career as a Contract Specialist with the Department of Defense (DOD). After working for DOD for more than six years in both Washington, DC, and Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, Pastor Moye surrendered to God's call to enter full-time Christian service.

Upon leaving his secular career in August 1998, Pastor Moye began attending Pensacola Theological Seminary (PTS), a ministry of Pensacola Christian College (PCC), in Pensacola, Florida. In May 2002, Pastor Moye graduated from PTS with a Master of Divinity.

In September 2003, Pastor Moye planted Northwest Baptist Church in Northwest Washington, DC. In July 2016, Northwest Baptist merged with Calvary Baptist, and Pastor Moye became the new pastor of Calvary Baptist Church.

Pastor Moye is married and is the father of three children.
