Beach Family Cemetery

Here follows an excerpt from the Fairfax County Genealogical Society website:

The Beach Family Cemetery borders the south side of Braddock Road (Route 620) directly across from its intersection with Red Fox Drive in Burke, west of the intersection of Braddock and Rolling Roads. The cemetery, which is on a wooded, one-half-acre lot, was not visible from the road when it was surveyed in September 1994.

One gravestone has been found near the southeast corner of the lot. There are several depressions in the area indicating other burials, and a few fieldstones.

Upon close inspection, the gravestone was visible from the yard behind the office building at 9000 Rolling Road. The gravesite is accessible from a paved path which begins behind 9006 Rolling Road and winds down through the woods. After about 15 feet on the path, turn right into the woods and walk parallel to the office building through the overgrowth and trees. The gravestone sits at the base of a tree.

During the 1994 survey of the cemetery, a passerby informed the surveyors that the gravestone had been toppled and recently set upright by someone exploring the woods.

Name Birth Death
Eliza Ann Beach
wife of J. T. Beach Jan 1846 Nov 1915

When the site was visited in 2015, neither the path through the woods nor the gravestone could be located in the overgrowth and deep piles of leaves and tree branches.

EDITOR'S NOTE: I went to visit the cemetery in 2024, the gravestone is in good condition and still readable, but it is difficult to reach through the overgrown underbrush along the forest floor. I'd recommend reaching the stone from the opposite side of the office building closest to Braddock Road since the forest has been cleared away more.
