Here follows a history of the school as published on the Fairfax County Public Schools website:

The Ashford School was located near the intersection of Guinea and Twinbrook Roads. Before his passing, lifelong Burke resident Bill Sheads shared his mother’s recollections about the school.

Sheads: “Now my mother and her brothers and sisters went to school there. And she told me that they used to write on slate, write on slates. And finally, they came along with blackboards when she was – after she had been there a number of years. And I have heard her say the old floor was rickety-like, that they’d walk across the floor and it would go squeak, squeak, squeak, and she used to tell me that.”

Host: After the Ashford School closed in the 1920s, the building was moved a short distance from Guinea Road and converted into a dwelling.
